At Auckland One Rail, we want to make rail journeys more accessible for our customers.
We’ve partnered with Hidden Disabilities Sunflower – Australia & New Zealand, a globally recognised organisation which supports people with invisible disabilities and encourages supportive, accessible, and inclusive environments.
All our Customer Service staff and Train Managers have completed Sunflower training and are better equipped to recognise the Sunflower symbol and respond with empathy, patience, and appropriate assistance when needed.
Andrew Barker, Customer Experience Development Manager at Auckland One Rail said “Our goal is to make the Auckland metro train network more accessible for all customers. Being part of the globally recognised Hidden Disabilities Sunflower helps us do this.
We’re now trained to recognise sunflower customers at our stations and trains across the rail network, and we’ll be there to help.”
For many people, travelling can be stressful or overwhelming. The Sunflower program provides a simple, discreet way for customers to signal that they may need extra support, understanding, or time during their journey.
For our customers, it means a more supportive journey experience and greater confidence using Auckland’s rail network. It’s about empowering people, raising awareness, and creating an environment where everyone feels welcome.
We’re proud to be part of a growing movement making travel accessible for all.
