Rail Safety Week is a busy time of year for us! We’ve had our team out on the network talking to customers about this year’s message. We’re working with KiwiRail and TrackSAFE to support their campaign: “Stay off. Stay safe. Tracks are for trains”. The aim is to warn people of the dangers of walking on or near railway tracks.
Our drivers experience many near misses and unfortunately the occasional fatality. Seeing what they see from the drivers’ cab can be traumatic so we want to tell the public about the risks and also warn people about how quiet today’s electric trains are.
As well as our team out on the network, our Chief Operating Officer Gavin Panter and our General Manager of Health & Safety Lisa D’Oliveira were in Wellington for the launch of the week in Parliament building.
One of our drivers CJ Withey, and Stations Manager Brad Ingledew, visited Arahoe School in New Lynn to talk to kids and deliver the TrackSAFE / NZTA message: Stop, Look, Listen, Think!
